Credit bureaus, or credit reporting agencies, are companies that collect and maintain consumer credit information then resell it to other businesses in the form of a credit report. There many credit reporting agencies, or credit bureaus, in the United States, but most people are familiar with the big three: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. These bureaus are all publicly-traded, for-profit companies who are not owned by the government.
To correct errors on your credit report, you need to contact the credit bureau that is showing erroneous information. Your FICO® score uses the information on your credit reports to calculate your FICO score, so inaccurate or incorrect information on your credit report can hurt your score. It is so important that everything on your credit report is reporting correctly. This includes but not limited to your addresses and name variations.
We recommend you do not use any of their online dispute services to dispute any discrepancies on your reports. In doing so, you will lose some very important rights because you have to agree to their terms when you send the online dispute. You can call them or send by mail a dispute for name differences and wrong address removals.
We recommend you mail them any dispute related to discrepancies in accounts on your credit reports. To contact the bureaus you can use the information below.

Experian
Most people don’t know that in addition to the three big credit reporting agencies – Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion – the FCRA also classifies dozens of other information gathering companies as “nationwide specialty consumer reporting agencies” which help produce individual consumer reports. These other agencies can specialize in medical records or payments, residential history, check writing history, employment history, and insurance claims. These nationwide specialty agencies sell their information to the credit bureaus and these bureaus put all of this information together into one comprehensive credit report.
